Downtown Tampa

Downtown Tampa is the central business district of Tampa and the chief financial district of the Tampa Bay Area. It is second only to Westshore regarding employment in the area. Companies with a major presence downtown include Bank of America, BB&T, PNC Financial Services, TECO Energy, and Verizon.  Located close by on the river is the Tampa Convention Center.  There are several residential complexes in Downtown Tampa and several other residential neighborhoods near the area.

The Uptown District, also known as the River Arts District, is the portion of downtown that hosts a significant part of nightlife, entertainment and dining in the neighborhood.  Cultural landmarks include the Tampa Theatre, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, and the Tampa Museum of Art.  Residents and guests enjoy other landmarks such as Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the John F. Germany public library, and Glazer Children's Museum. The city's educational hub is The University of Tampa, a medium sized private co-educational university.  Areas adjacent to Downtown Tampa are Channelside and Ybor City.
